Tell us about your sports & fitness background.
Do not have one, never took interest in any kind of sport or activity.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit?
I found out about crossfit by my amiga Cristina. She and I were looking to get into some type of fitness class and I am not sure how she came upon crossfit and found GWCF. We decided to try it out together after some research.
Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?
My first WOD was “death by deck of cards’, a partner workout. Uh yeah….I died like 5+ times. I remember being wiped out within the first 5min. I also recall wanting to stop and walk out I just kept thinking “when are we going to get through this deck!” I soooo wanted to hide some of the cards in the deck at some point. The running was the hardest part for me, and the lunges, and the burpees…all of it. But afterwards, once we had finished the deck in 30 something minutes (we were the last ones to finish) I felt SO proud of myself. I really could not believe I had done that workout, it was most definitely the toughest workout I had ever done in my life. I had felt as if I had accomplished so much and it was only 6am. I couldn’t walk afterwards but I felt great, haha- almost badass.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF? (before / after)
I have several changes since starting CF. Changes in my body like before I had no kind of muscle and now I have muscle on my thighs and arms!! I was beyond stoked to find out I had any muscle present but dude how can I not after so many squats!! It’s awesome though. I also have gained so much strength, both physically and mentally.IMG_8743
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?
I  was not expecting to like this so dang much and stick to it. I’ve never been one to like going to the gym or working. And I LOVE coming here, I mean it’s to a point where I look forward to it and when I miss a class I feel so sucky. I know coach said at the beginning during movement’s class that I’d be addicted to this but I seriously thought he was exaggerating, but it became true! You crave to come in and lift heavy SHIT,  die a couple times, joke around with the team, and hope to feel sore from the workout.
Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / GWCF moments.
I regularly attend the 5am class which coach has nick named the “5am females (Pronounced Famal-es) class” because for the most part its only women that shows up. You’ll find all of us half asleep and tired as heck but we still somehow manage to joke around a lot. Here and there we’ll try talking coach into not having a WOD and instead chit-chat but that hasn’t been successful thus far, ehhh it’s always worth a try. There is always a lot of “Wait, I’m sorry what are we doing?” from C.C or Mel…..never fails that someone asks this at least once, right after coach has explained the workout. My favorite though is when coach blesses us with a mini karaoke session with the workout songs Lol it’s the cherry on top to my mornings.
Any advice for people just getting started?
I recommend that if you are deciding to try this then truly give it your all everyTHING!. I know the feeling of intimidation by seeing the strength of all these other super strong human beings and feeling discouraged but after you take one class you will see that no one is here to judge you and on the contrary we CHEER each other on. We all start at different levels of endurance and that’s fine, your goal should only be to be better than you were the day prior. And then it won’t be long till you’ll want more and more of this insanity.
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?
I spend a lot of my time at work but when I’m not working I like to just chill and hang out with family and friends!
