Tell us about your sports & fitness background.

Played sports all my life growing up.  Love to compete.  Baseball is my favorite sport (Go Cubs).  As an adult, You occasional gym workout with no drive.  Played lots of softball until I got burned out on it. In the last 3 years I’ve had rotator cuff surgery but have not done anything to rebuild strength until now with CF

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?

Exposed:  Talking with Remy (A big Cross Fitter) it sounded like a great workout. Different movements and with the drive of your teammates. I always thought this would not be for me as a new person jumping into workouts that others are above and beyond a new comer. I was told that I would be brought along at my own pace but with people pushing you to succeed.  So why not, let’s give it a shot.  I was not disappointed.  I love the push my teammates give me. As competitive as we all are, no one leaves anyone behind.  A team effort even though we are there for our own goals.  I have to say…. I’m addicted to my new cult.   Lol

First wod:  200 meter run, ring rows, push ups & kettle bell squat/swings.       Considering I was new it felt good.  I like the way Brennan coaches.  He knows his shit and teaches you, watches you to make sure you are doing the movements correct. He stops you if you are not and works with you to accomplish and understand the movement and as to why the movement is the way it is.   I like this type of coaching.  It shows that he cares for your safety and accomplishments vs. a coach that tells you, shows you then walks away and assumes you have it.  So in a nut shell, my workout was great.  You are introduced at a pace you can handle while being driven for success.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF? (before / after)  Before: Tired, sluggish and little over weight. As a diabetic I had pain in my feet due to the weight I was carrying.  I ate like crap. My clothes fit good…..

After:  I have lost 27.4 lbs.  My clothes all fall off me.  I am eating healthier.  I’m not as tired (I still don’t get much sleep, but my own doing).  The pain in my feet has gone away.  I am off one of my medications for my diabetes.  I feel fantastic and looking good.  I can almost see my abs forming.   lol

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit  that were totally unexpected?

I did not expect to get hooked and addicted to CF, but I am.  If I miss going for a couple of days; I start jonesing for it.  I guess I never expected to look the way I look considering I’ve always had some weight I was carrying. Now I see the potential and have goals to accomplish for myself.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / GWCF moments.

Really I like it all.  There is nothing I don’t really like except burpies as of now.  (really, who likes burpies. Lol)

Any advice for people just getting started?

Yes, don’t ever think you cannot do this. Give it 30 days.  You’ll see yourself transform while meeting great people that will help you achieve your goals.  Look for a coach like Brennan that will listen to what your needs and wants are to help you achieve your goals.   You got this !!!

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?

Sports. Hiking, just being outdoors doing fun stuff while getting some exercise.
